On Wednesday, 29th of January, Tanzanian Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda met with Finnish guests including Prime Minister Jyrki Katainen and Minister for International Development Pekka Haavisto. Tanzanian President Kikwete also spoke at the event, particularly about the global roles of Africa, East Africa, and Tanzania in the coming decades.
In his speech, Finnish Prime Minister Jyrki Katainen spoke about Finland’s present and future role in development work. He mentioned projects such as SunEdu, for which Electria provided user experience research, pilot project design and implementation, and technical research. In the SunEdu business development project, Finnish businesses and Metropolia collaborated on the development of an electronic learning environment to provide off-grid schools and students with up-to-date educational content and light.
The Tanzanian officials also expressed an interest in the development of energy production, particularly renewable energies such as those explored in the SunEdu project. Metropolia has special expertise in this area.
